Artist Statements
Architecture Artist Statement
I took this photo in Saline in a historic barn. I chose this location because I really like the ribbed vaults that it has for structural support. The barn is made mostly of wood which has warped with time giving it a very unique look. During my shoot I had a small complication, my camera battery died after I took two photos which was pretty unfortunate, although it taught me that buying an extra battery might be good idea. I ordered another battery and hopefully I will not have any more problems. Portrait Artist Statement
My image is meant to reflect my interests. My layers include a picture of snakewood which is my favorite wood that I use for turning. I turn several items every week, these include pens, pepper grinders, keychains, and bowls. My next layer depicts an octopus which is my favorite animal. My next layer is a famous painting of a wave, this represents my interest in art. My next layer is a picture of a willow tree which shows my interest in nature. My final layer is a picture of a zen tangle which is my favorite form of art to do. I did my selfie by lowering the opacity of my images and placing them on top of my picture of myself. Objects Artist Statement
For my objects, I took a picture of an antique clock and applied multiple filters using photoshop. For the lighting in this picture, I placed the clock in front of the sunset which created a unique aspect and also enhanced the object. |
Still Life Artist Statement
For my still life I chose a series of objects that I thought would reflect light well. I decided to arrange the chain so that it would travel between each of the objects. The objects that I chose were important to me because they were gifts from relatives. The objects I chose were meant to display the importance of time. In the photo I chose to have the eagle in the center because it contains elements of shape and color. The color in the eagle has changed over time giving it many unique properties. The shape in the eagle has both organic and geometric values. Shadows and Artist Statements
Most of my shadow pictures were taken in downtown Dexter, I took pictures of people walking down the street and my friends leaning up against walls. I then edited these pictures and converted the shadows to silhouettes of monsters. For my reflections, I took pictures of bubbles, car mirrors, landscapes, my cat, and water reflections. Some of these pictures were taken on Mast Road in Dexter and others were taken in St. Joe. The biggest challenge I had with this project was getting my cat to stay still, I finally achieved this by using one of her toys and drawing her attention. Landscape Artist Statement
I took this photo in a field where I was later kicked out. although the pictures turned out okay, I would not have used them if I had had another option, because the lady who yelled at me was very rude. In addition to her rudeness her property also contained several power lines making it visually unappealing. |
